A shooting at a mall near Milwaukee on Friday afternoon left multiple people hurt but none with life-threatening injuries, an official said.
The official, Dennis McBride, the mayor of Wauwatosa, Wis., said the shooting happened at the Mayfair Mall, but it was not clear how many were injured.
He also said it was not clear that those hurt were gunshot victims. He said several people had been taken to a nearby hospital.
The gunman remained at large, he said. A motive for the shooting was not clear.
Mr. McBride said about 75 law enforcement officers from a variety of departments had descended on the mall, which is the city’s largest taxpayer and the busiest in Milwaukee County.
Lindsay Kahn, a spokeswoman for Brookfield Properties, the owner of the mall, said in a statement: “We are disheartened and angered that our guests and tenants were subject to this violent incident today. We are thankful for our partners at the Wauwatosa Police Department and we are cooperating with them as their investigation develops.”
Officials at the mall and the Police Department could not be immediately reached.
